Picture Poetry

These poems were written based on pictures. I have not included the original picture links with the words. Most can stand on their own without them. To see the pictures, go to Photographic Inspiration.

Dying Bubbles

A fine crochet or tatted lace--
stitches fade with age.
The shawl, once beautiful
in its delicacy, disintegrates
into nothingness.

A Shadow

I reach for something
that doesn't exist.
Even though it seems
like I've got it,
I'm eluded once again.

Maybe I wasn't meant
to capture that moment.
Maybe that moment and you
don't really exist.

It wouldn't be life, though,
if we didn't try.

Water Drops of Me

The water clings to the blades
as surely as I've stuck to you.
Gather all of the droplets together
and you'll receive only
a much larger puddle.
Assemble the pieces of me
and find something much different.
Take our combined memories
and call them a life. The grass
only holds so many mysteries.

Summer Oasis

cool metal and water spout
much needed respite

Colors

The genie suffused
in rainbow of spring colors
meditates our lives.

Distortion

Distortion creates illusions
since things are not what they seem.
Properly placed blurs permit
us to see a headless horse
as he races along water
with the others.

Blackie and the Lion

My pets never were the kind
to turn tail and hide. They
let everyone they met know
they meant business. They
were the terrors of the shadows
and masters of the neighborhood,
especially Blackie...

He always deserved a better
name, but Blackie stuck to him
like ink to paper. The kids
couldn't say the other names.
Blackie was a beast in his own
right, but he never lost temper
with the kids or me.

He behaved like a watch dog
and snarled ferociously at strangers.
Until one day, he met his match.
Blackie fell in love. Never one
to share his space, this ceramic
lion was majestic enough
to do honor to Blackie.

Even today, we don't know
if he knows
the lion isn't real.
