Coffee Table

When they cleared the land
to build their new home,
a man on a bicycle stopped
and asked if he could
buy the trees. Upon
examination, the wood
was not solid. Instead,
he said I'll build you
a coffee table.

The trees were gone,
the house was built,
and life went on. Three
years later comes
a knock on the door,
a somewhat familiar man
holds a coffee table, grins
and says, I bet you thought
I forgot!
